Prevention Institute designs, implements and advises on lasting strategies to build healthier communities and help people live healthier lives. The Institute is particularly focused on building resilience and preventing illness and injury.
Many factors that influence a person’s health are outside the doctor’s office. That’s why the Institute works with local United Ways across the U.S. to create solutions that keep people healthy. The Institute’s ideas and tools help United Ways fuel community education, educate providers, strengthen coalitions and influence policy. For example, United Way of Greater Toledo has helped create community gardens, more bike paths and healthy (free) school breakfasts for all kids—all ideas supported by the Institute and, in many cases, supported by assistance from Institute staff.
