The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office has been advised about a few ongoing scams in our area. Individuals, claiming they are from the Sheriff’s Office, are calling about legal issues. They are using the actual officer’s names but the phone number that they are using is out of this area. If the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office is reaching out to you the phone number will be a 304-564-**** number. Other calls are claiming a relative is in custody and you are needed to wire the bond money immediately. Individuals are also claiming they have legal documents for you or a relative and they need you to give them personal information before they can deliver the documents. Please, if you receive one of these phone calls or any phone call that you are not sure about, do not give any personal information such as social security number, birthday, address, bank account number, etc. Never wire any money, especially to someone you do not know.
